Fortunately for us, Ukrainian roads are still free to use. This is also the case in a small number of other countries. However, many neighboring countries, and others, already have toll roads. Of course, not all of them, because there is always an alternative, but there are many such roads. And to drive on them, you will need to pay a road toll, such as a vignette. Below, we will find out how to use such roads and how much it will cost.
Which roads in Europe are toll roads?
There are many such countries. Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia have toll roads. You can also find them in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Moldova, Slovenia, and Switzerland. However, not every road requires a toll, only expressways. The advantage of such roads is that you can easily and quickly reach any point in the country. These roads do not pass through cities or any settlements. There are no traffic lights or dangerous intersections on them.
So, in general, these highways have everything you need to just step on the gas and enjoy the scenery, the beautiful road, and the speed. And it's worth paying for that. But if you don't want to pay, you can almost always find another route that's free.
The cost of traveling on a toll road
It is difficult to name a specific amount here, as everything depends on the cost per kilometer in each individual country. The presence of bridges, tunnels, and the general condition of the road also matter. If we take the average, then to travel 100 kilometers on a toll road, you will have to pay somewhere between 5 and 8 euros.
There is another payment method — daily. In this case, for 10 days of traveling on toll roads, you will have to pay 7-15 euros. But when it comes to toll roads in Europe, what you plan to drive also matters. After all, there are different rates for passenger cars and trucks.
How to pay for travel on a toll road?
When it comes to payment, there are two main systems:
- payment for mileage traveled on toll roads;
- purchase of a right that allows you to use toll roads for a certain period of time.
In the first case, mileage will be recorded in a certain way. The second method will allow you to use roads throughout the country for a specific period of time. For example, when it comes to paying for roads in the Czech Republic, it is better to choose the second option. After all, in this country, purchasing a vignette is more suitable.
