Hybrid - what kind of car is it and is it worth the price?

Hybrid car - what is it and how to insure it?

The name of such a car speaks for itself. Hybrids have two engines in their bodies: an electric motor and a conventional internal combustion engine. And this combination makes the car more environmentally friendly. After all, it significantly reduces the appetite for fuel. A hybrid car can move on only one engine or on two engines at once. It all depends on the mode. In addition, a hybrid is a vehicle that can be charged not only like an electric car. It can also recharge its battery using the energy of an internal combustion engine.

How does a hybrid car work?

A hybrid car is a unique unit that has a pair of energy sources under the hood. This raises an interesting question: how does a hybrid car work? In general, the principle of operation of a hybrid car can be described as follows:

  1. Starting to drive at low speed. Here, only the electric motor is in operation.

  2. Driving. Here the internal combustion engine is also connected to the work.

  3. Increase in speed. The engine accelerates to a greater extent, but the electric part only supports it.

  4. Stopping. The internal combustion engine works in the standard mode, but the excess energy is transferred to the battery.

In cars with an internal combustion engine or an electric motor, one engine is behind all the processes. But a hybrid car can be said to have a certain division of responsibilities. So the load on either engine is less.

Features of customs clearance of hybrid cars

In general, there are two ways to clear hybrid cars. In the first case, a hybrid car can be customs-cleared by the internal combustion engine, but in the second case, it is assumed that the engine is electric. It depends on which engine is directly connected to the wheels.

But here you will have to prove to customs control that the internal combustion engine is not involved in the movement. If a hybrid is driven by an internal combustion engine, the hybrid is considered an ordinary car (with a gasoline engine of 1,000 - 1,500 cc), 8703 23 (engine of 1,500 - 3,000 cc), 8703 24 (over 3,000 cc). This is the design of most hybrids imported to the Ukrainian market as new or used - Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion PHEV, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, etc.

Who should buy such a car and how much does it cost?

A hybrid car attracts attention with its unusual design. But is it worth buying a hybrid car? Compared to a classic car with an internal combustion engine, hybrid cars will have slightly higher prices. But in operation, this car is more economical. Hybrid cars are ideal for just driving around the city every day. After all, driving in traffic jams or parking will not actually require the operation of an internal combustion engine. This means fuel savings. So if you are a city driver, this is the perfect option.

How to insure a hybrid car?

If you have a hybrid car, it means that it will be subject to a standard insurance procedure. And you can insure such a car only as a regular car. So you just need to choose the best solution for yourself and go through the standard procedure. In general, taking out a motor citizen policy for a hybrid, as well as for other cars, is a prerequisite.
