There are more and more cars with electric motors. And you can recognize them on the road not only by the virtually inaudible operation of the electric motor, but also by their unique license plates. They are green. Moreover, these are the only license plates that do not indicate that the car belongs to a particular user group (for example, law enforcement or a private individual), but rather its technical features. But most importantly, green license plates are now mandatory for every electric car.
Can I install my license plates from an internal combustion engine on an electric car?
In general, it used to be possible to leave the old license plates of a car with an internal combustion engine on a new electric car. This was especially popular with those who had some original license plates. Yes, green license plates also existed back then, but they could be obtained on request. However, now all owners of electric trains must install only green license plates. In general, the following rules apply to the use of license plates:
-
regular license plates are issued only for cars with internal combustion engines;
-
a green license plate must be issued to an electric car.
Thus, a green license plate has become a mandatory distinguishing feature of an electric car.
What do green license plates for electric cars look like?
Like regular license plates, green license plates have letters and numbers. However, they are not black, but green. And like the usual ones, they have a standard combination of 4 blocks:
-
the flag and the UA mark;
-
two letters indicating the region where the car is registered;
-
a combination of 4 digits;
-
two letters indicating the series of the license plate.
The series is indicated in Latin letters. In general, this combination used to start with the letter Z (i.e. zero, zero emissions), but after the outbreak of a full-scale war, it was decided to use the combination with the letter Y, which stands for Ukraine. As for the background, legal entities and individuals receive white license plates with green letters, while taxis, carriers, and the like receive plates with a yellow background.
What to do with old purchased numbers?
And then the question arises of what to do with your old purchased numbers. If you want, you can simply leave them for safe keeping. For example, you bought an electric car and got new green license plates. Then you can leave the old ones at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It costs only 10.8 UAH per day.
These license plates can then be put on another car. After all, many people, having an electric car, still buy an inexpensive car with an internal combustion engine, just in case. In addition, the saved license plates can be used by a family member for their car. For example, they can be taken by a spouse, children, or parents.
